Mr. Tan Song Yan is a distinguished legal professional whose journey in the field of law has been marked by notable achievements and wide-ranging expertise. Graduating with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from Multimedia University in 2016, his commitment to the legal profession became evident early on.
His legal career began with a period of pupilage under the mentorship of Mr. Manian K. Marappan at Messrs. Manian K. Marappan & Company in Batu Pahat. This pivotal career phase provided him with the foundational knowledge and skills required for legal practice.
On the 16th of March 2016, Mr Tan Song Yan achieved a significant milestone by being admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. This formal recognition of his legal prowess marked the commencement of his professional journey.
Subsequently, in April 2017, he embarked on his practice as a Legal Assistant at Messrs. Manian K. Marappan & Company, further honing his legal acumen and contributing to the firm’s legal endeavours.
In February 2019, Mr Tan Song Yan took on a new challenge by joining the Attorney General Chambers, where he held the position of Deputy Public Prosecutor in the Special Litigation Unit. His tenure in this role showcased his dedication to public service and his commitment to upholding the law.
After a year of serving in the Attorney General Chambers, Mr Tan Song Yan decided to return to private practice in February 2020. It was during this time that he established his own law firm, Song Yan & Co., marking a significant milestone in his career as an independent legal practitioner. He subsequently expanded his firm by partnering with Mr Ronnie Tang Pei Xin, who oversees branches in Johor Bahru.
Mr. Tan Song Yan’s legal expertise spans diverse areas, including general litigation and dispute resolution, corporate drafting and advisory, company law, contract law, employment law, family law, intellectual property, defamation, probate & administration, criminal law, and Will writing.
